About me

Perhaps the most significant thing there is to be known about me is that I have spent over forty years now living in the wilds of a National Park in the far SouthWest of England, a very special region that’s known across the world for its own unique take on the glories of the natural environment.

Over more than 300 million years, natural forces have created a landscape that’s both uncompromisingly rugged and at the same time gently beautiful, playing host to an abundance of flora and fauna unique (or almost so, in some cases) to this region. The beauty of this ‘natural garden’ is of a quality not to be found anywhere else.

Don’t just take my word for it. Film Director Steven Spielberg has shot amazing footage in some of the most spectacular locations on this planet; in a news interview he had this to say about this particular 368 square miles: “ I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.”

[Here I have to own to a bit of name-dropping: I had the opportunity to speak briefly to Spielberg, also to two of his lead actors, whilst I was engaged as an extra in this epic film. That’s me waving my hat as our lads – and that Horse of the film’s title – march off to war.]
